Kingston City Rollers named Community Sporting Organisation of the Year

At the 2024 Australian Pride in Sports Awards on Tuesday 23rd April, Kingston City Rollers were named as Community Sporting Organisation of the Year for the second year running. Kingston City Rollers (KCR) were also recognised as a Platinum & Gold Tier Community Sporting Organisation in the Pride in Sports Index.

Launched in 2018, the Australian Pride in Sport Awards is the first celebration of its kind dedicated solely to celebrating and acknowledging exceptional efforts in making Australian sport more inclusive of LGBTQ+ people. It is produced by Pride in Sport, the national not-for-profit sporting inclusion program spearheaded by Australia’s largest LGBTQ+ health organisation, ACON2. The Pride in Sports Index (PSI) is a rigorous benchmarking instrument that requires those participating to submit evidence against an established baseline criterion developed specifically to determine, measure, and drive best practice of LGBTQ+ inclusive practices in sport. Platinum status is the highest obtainable recognition within the PSI and acknowledges the highest levels of performance within the PSI over a sustained period to attain this prestigious recognition organisations must be acknowledged as those who whose commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion is for the long-term.

This is an outstanding achievement for a grassroots sporting community and recognises the enormous efforts that coaches, players and officials at Kingston City Rollers have put in over a number of years to ensure the league, events and community are a safe and inclusive environment for all people to participate. It also recognises the importance of creating open gender sporting communities which welcomes a diversity of people.

Kingston City Rollers is encouraged by this recognition of inclusion and the work the members are doing to encourage LGBTQIA+ inclusion within the local community. This award is a boost for the team as they prepare the team to travel to The Great Southern Slam3, the world’s biggest Roller Derby tournament held in Adelaide in June.
